From President’s Desk:
Dear Friends,
Humanity including the animals, specially the wild, is on verge of vanishing by increasing Global Warming. Devastating hurricanes, alarming rise in sea-levels, rivers inundating cities, unheard deadly deceases that the humanity is encountering world-wide, is just the beginning of our end and the reasons are not natural or the supernatural but man-made. The reason behind organising this National Convention on World Environment Day 2016 with Global Warming the man-imposed calamity as its theme, is to educate and make aware the younger and future generation, to be cautious enough about the dangers of Global Warming and how to reduce Pollution around us not only to
save ourselves but also to protect animals from harms caused by the Global Warming which is nothing but the outrage by mother nature for our own misdeeds. The man has travelled a lot, from the stone-age era to the current modern one where the science has virtually proved that sky is not the limit. The man has conquered the moon and the mars searching for life there but then the million dollar question arises whether or no this earth is enough for the humanity to live on, What are we up-to Is this earth not sufficient for the life or are we in search of another planet to pollute that too.
Another disturbing fact also mirrors the society when we find ourselves out there to eliminate the humanity itself when we wildly kill the wild for monetary benefits. Friends, humanity includes animals also although man is distinguished as the social animal. The UN decided the theme of WED 2016 as Zero Tolerance for the Illegal Wildlife trade, the effects of wildlife trade include the destruction of natural capital in which many nations could build healthy tourism industries the spread of corruption and the undermining of the rule of law all around the world and the fattening of purses of the international crime syndicates. This must stop and the time to take action is long overdue and I call upon all individuals to use their spheres of influence to help end the illegal trade in wildlife by engaging in the Go Wild for Life campaign. Natural resources such as lakes, rivers, forests, wildlife etc. have a pivotal role in Indian lifestyle but growing pollution in the country is increasing pressure on environment. There are many environmental issues in India. Air pollution, water pollution, garbage, and pollution of the natural environment are all challenges for India. According to World Bank experts, between 1995 through
2010, India has made one of the fastest progress in the world, in addressing its environmental issues and improving its environmental quality. Still, India has a long way to go to reach environmental quality required to minimise pollution that remains a major challenge and opportunity for India. Major environmental issues are forest and agricultural degradation of land, rampant burning of fuel-wood and biomass such as dried waste from livestock as the primary source of energy, lack of organised garbage and waste removal services, lack of sewage treatment operations, lack of flood control and monsoon water drainage system, diversion of consumer waste into rivers, cremation practices near major rivers, resource depletion, environmental degradation, public health, loss of biodiversity, loss of resilience in ecosystems, livelihood security for the poor. Environmental issues are one of the primary causes of disease, health issues and long term livelihood impact for India. It is high time that we wake to the natures call and take proper care of the mother earth as the mother has always cared about us and it is the time for us to reciprocate appropriately and take care as we nurture own children rather than destroying it. Similarly, we must take care of the animals, especially the wild also since it is not whether the animals will survive, it is whether humans have the will to save them.
Environmental protection is not a single-day campaign. This is a life-long cause of the day-to-day efforts of every citizen of the world. So, wake up.
Thank you!
